I have the C-Max ruby red.  On the car's window sticker it says 'ruby red metallic tinted'.  Does that mean the windows are already tinted?  And does it already have any UV protection?  Will an aftermarket tint give more UV protection?  Aftermarket tint will give privacy and more heat protection.

Thanks

The "tinted" is with regards to the paint, not the windows.

As for the windows, this is a great question. Are the windows athermic? Do they protect from UV? I do not know...

I wish privacy windows would be available like on the Escape for example.

They can't do factory privacy windows because the C-Max is classified as a "passenger car" by the Feds.

Which also means that in most states it is subject to the strictest tint laws (which I never understood why a SUV can be blacked out but my little car can't... People in SUVs don't shoot cops?)

Not sure why they don't tint the rears like they did on my Subaru Outback.  No tint on the stock cmax.  It is a fishbowl with superb visibility.

The outback isn't classified as a "passenger car". It's classified as a "wagon".

It's stupid, I know...

Thanks for the info, Valkraider - that explains it. And I agree that this is in spite of common sense too!

Plain glass provides some UV protection.  I don't know exactly how much.  It must block a lot of the UV because I've never gotten suntanned driving all day when the windows were up.  It must not block all UV because dashboards will fade and crack on cars left in the sun sooner than on cars kept in a garage.

The glass roof on the C-Max is factory tinted, but not super dark.

I had aftermarket tint put on.  Those tints often give numbers, for example:

Glass windows protect you form UV rays. You can't tan with glass over you.

I had tint on my last car, but it made it tough to back up at night... Now, of course, I have a back up camera so that point might be moot.

Still, not sure I want to tint...

The C-Max has only limited UV protection. My glasses get dark inside the car. Not quite as dark as being outside, but they still darken. So there is UV getting into the car.

My Camry is very heavily tinted. I'm not too sure how it complies with Florida state law but the only drawback is having to put the windows down at every t junction at night. My new cmax has no tint. I was debating on whetheror not to get it done but waiting in the car line this afternoon at my daughters school, things got very hot and the air con was working overtime.
