Hello,

Two errors appears occasionally and at the same time:

P0A82 - Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Performance/Stuck Off

U0412 - Invalid Data Received From Battery Energy Control Module "A

I have removed battery fan and it seem to be ok, nothing is clogging, air ducts also clean.

Maybe Battery control module is failing?  Maybe it's worth updating it? But I even don't see it in Ford IDS Module reprogramming  section...

This should be under warranty, except I see that you're in Europe so I'm not sure Ford will deal with it there. When you charge it can you hear the fan?

POA82 sets when cooling fan speed does not match what was commanded by the BECM for 45 seconds.  When you clear the DTC, does the fan run? You can monitor fan speed.  There are tests to check voltages and grounds at connectors and tests to check feedback to BECM.  Did you run the self test on the BECM?  Did you run fan speed check?  All in Service Manual and you need a scan tool.

Yes, I'm in Europe, and local Ford dealer cannot help much. Only oil changes and similar simple jobs.

I hear only fan running when charging, but that different fan.  Battery cooling fan is in  drivers side under the battery and I have never heard it running :(

I have Ford IDS, but I don't see in it any actuators test like to "run the fan" or smth. I can run self test for BECM, but it returns the same DTC.

I can clear those DTCs, but they appear once a day anyway, and it seems that on the same condition - when  battery temperature is about 30C (86F).

I have removed the BECM unit, wanted to check contacts and look for any damage, but it is glued and sealed, so I left it as is its. Maybe this can be faulty BECM unit, because at the same time with P0A82 also U0412 appears.

Does anyone know how to test fan with Ford IDS sw?

FROM THE SERVICE MANUAL - see red text below

G8   CHECK HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY COOLING FAN SPEED

  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect High Voltage Battery Cooling fan C4434 and BECM C4816A.
  • Inspect and repair if necessary:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the BECM C4816A and High Voltage Battery Cooling Fan C4434. Make sure they are seated and latched correctly.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view BECM PIDs.
  • Using the output state control command Fan Speed Demanded (FAN_DEM) to approximately 2,500 rpm.
  • Monitor the Fan Speed Indicated (FAN_IND) PID.
  • Listen for the High Voltage Battery cooling fan.

Does the PID FAN_IND reading consistently above 2,200 rpm?

Yes GO to G9 No If FAN_IND is 0 and High Voltage Battery Cooling Fan is running INSTALL a new BECM .
REFER to: Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) (414-03A High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
Otherwise (High Voltage Battery Cooling Fan is NOT spinning, or Fan speed is erratic up and down, or Fan not spinning fast enough), INSTALL a new High Voltage Battery Cooling Fan. REFER to: High Voltage Battery Cooling Fan and Air Outlet Duct - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) (414-03A High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
G9   CHECK FOR CORRECT BECM (BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a scan tool, clear the BECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  • Using a scan tool, perform BECM self-test.

Is DTC P0A81:00 and/or P0A82:00 present?

Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BECM .
REFER to: Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) (414-03A High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation). No The system is operating correctly at this time.

Thank you very much, just checked - FAN_IND is always 0  and  is not spinning!!  The contacts were dirty, but I cleaned them and did not help, so probably I must look for new fan first....

I would maybe verify voltage at the terminals with it commanded "on" before ordering a new fan.  Could still be the module.  Tasca Parts is a good source for these cars.

It was fan faulty, installed new one and it's spinning and no more errors.  I have older Ford Etis 2016 version where this problem is not covered...Thank you, plus 3 golfer again!!!
