Hi. My rear hatch is crazy. It opens always but closing is a complete exercise in frustration. Ford dealer said I needed a new piston for over $600.
My thought is I could purchase the NON powered lift pistons and remove the original ones. What are the odds that it’ll be plug and play and that the power latch release will continue to work?
Thanks

I like those odds; especially considering the dealer pricing.  I'd suggest looking up the part numbers for the manual liftgate version here: https://parts.ford.com/en.html and shop around.

Does it not go down properly or does it not latch properly?  IIRC, years back there was a service campaign for latches.

There's a difference between manual and electronic? Saw these on Amazon but not sure they will work:

The manual ones are thinner.  The automatic ones are thicker, gear drive and electric to operate.

Strange, one part number pulls up something, but the other side does not.  Possibly a part number error on the Ford Parts site I used....

Geez, those are expensive!!!

Might be worth stopping by a dealer(unless you know someone else with a non-power rear hatch) and taking a look at an un-powered hatch next to yours and seeing if the pivot points, etc are in the same places and how the latch mechanism works...

I would expect the hatch to be almost identical, because mine without the power liftgate has a notch for the trunk button, just no button.

Sadly the upper ball mount on the top of each side,. The ball is larger than the socket on each arm.
Wonder if I can purchase the bracket/ ball

So I ordered the new manual pistons from Amazon and they fit, AFTER I bought two new manual post brackets from Ford.
