I called my insurance agent to get coverage for my new (to me, 6K miles) 2016 C-Max Energi: Never heard of it. Thought it was a truck. Went to have it assessed: They'd never heard of one. Went to get the tags and can you believe it: They had no idea what it was. How can a major American automaker fail to let anyone know what they're selling? I live in the sticks, but it's not like there aren't Prii around town. People might have bought it if they'd heard of it.

Me: Why don't you advertise the CMax?
Dealer: Because they don't sell!
Me: Your trucks sell themselves? Then why advertise them?
I've never seen a CMax in any advertising...

Yeah, in my neck of the woods in Western NY it's only been in the past year that I've started seeing maybe 2 or 3 C-Max hybrids around. I'd noticed a couple(even an Energi or 2) when we'd visit Rochester before that.
I'd guess that most people don't want to deal with plugging in or aren't that concerned with efficiency(or else they go for a Prius) so if they're shopping Ford and they're looking for something like a C-Max they either go down to the cheaper Focus, or up to an Escape.
The mediocre cargo space doesn't help. Then again with that in mind, I'm not sure how the Fusion Energi even exists...

Only Fusion Energi's I've seen around are parked in the city maintenance or city hall lots using the private chargers there. Also some of the salesmen at the Ford dealer where I bought my 2 cars have them. Basically folks in the know looking for cheap fuel or government folks looking to save gas and don't need cargo space. The trunk was a non-starter for me but it was the very first "hybrid" I drove when I started looking into new cars last April.

It's amazing that Ford has done a fantastic job getting a nationwide network of dealers to be EV-capable, then completely whiffed on selling the things, through flaws that are dealbreakers to many (battery humps) and a complete lack of advertising.

That would be the funnest thing about driving rideshare in a C-Max, dealing with the quizzical looks and questions. Go forth and spread the word!
