So now it's the middle of February and still no Android Auto that was promised "by the end of the year" (last year that is).

When I bought my C-Max last May, I was told it would be here by the end of the Summer. It was one of the first features I asked about. Very disappointing. It is at least within Ford's power not to leave us in the dark about this.

I take it that Android Auto is not coming at all.

Sync 3 v2.2 is here, and I downloaded it from the Ford site about 1-2 weeks ago. It includes Android Auto. Go to owner.ford.com, and look at the bottom of the page for Sync section.

So I downloaded and installed version 2.2. I take the USB cord for my phone out of the cigarette lighter charging socket that I've been using for the past year and plug it into the car's USB jack under the armrest. About 10 minutes later my phone displays a message saying "Weak charging detected. Your battery will not maintain charge." So when I get to work I swap the phone with the USB stick I keep all my music on, just to see if that makes a difference. On the way home, battery still does not maintain charge.
So great, I can now use Android Auto, but my battery wan't stay charged if I do.

My iPhone charges fine and I haven't done any upgrades. Now that 2.2 is out I'll install and report back.

My iPhone charges with no problem on v2.2 using the USB ports that are under the armrest. CarPlay doesn't work, I've ordered the upgraded USB ports part to be installed. From what I've read, Android Auto should work without the upgraded ports.

I installed V2.2 today, took 30 minuets. Started it on my way to work, stopped at the drive through and finished right after i parked.
Nice that the system was functional during the upgrade.
Left car off until lunchtime and everything worked fine. Phone charges fine.
Is there a different part number for that USB port?

I've tried it for a few days now and it DOES charge, albeit slowly, as long the phone screen is off. However, I discovered that I'm required to use Google Maps rather than Waze, so I disabled AA for the time being and went back to a standard setup.

The module that I ordered isHC3Z-19A387-B OEM Genuine Ford Parts CARPLAY Interface Module - Dual Port - HC3Z-19A387-B NEW
My understanding is that It is the Apple Play compatible USB module for Lincolns, and so the USB ports glow white (not blue). I ordered it on eBay from Fairway Ford.

I was rummaging in the settings on my 2016 CMAX Energy Sync 3 yesterday, and saw something new. An icon for Android Auto!
I spent around half an hour checking it out today, with my Note 4 plugged in. Google maps works great, and shows their traffic reporting. The control functionality seems stripped down from the Android app, perhaps to limit driver distraction. I still have a lot of learning to do though.
I also played with the audio support, which looks like Google Play. It doesn't appear to provide access to the Sync 3 music sources, but provided an assortment of streaming music and podcasts.
I'm grateful to Ford for getting around to this! It took over a year, but that's much better than never.

Waze was recently release as an AA app, so for the last couple weeks I've tried using AA again. Unfortunately, it's still not up to snuff. The interface is childishly simply, so many features that I'm used to are not available. My phone still won't charge a reasonable amount during a typical drive. Worst of all, about 75% of the time the "OK, Google" voice interface responds with a "I don't know how to help you with that" even when using the most simple commands.
I'm going back to Sync and standalone phone apps.
