I'd read that a good reason to get a Level 2 charger installed is that remote start while plugged into it will not use the ICE to heat up the car. But, I can't seem to get that to happen. It doesn't seem to turn on the ICE immediately, but if I leave it going long enough to usefully heat the cabin, it's on. Anything I'm missing?

It's been in the low 30s here, so nothing ridiculous.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe GO times will not start the ICE. However, remote starting might even if plugged into L2.

Yes remote start or turning on the car while plugging in to turn on the heat can start the engine if the temp is around 32 or lower.  Electric heat is just not enough especially if the fan is running at faster than the lowest speed.

Go-Times will work to pre-heat the car without starting the ICE, such as in an enclosed garage.  Remote start settings can be tweaked to make it less likely to start the ICE, but remote start cannot be trusted in an enclosed garage.
