After seeing a post about a phone call on the Fusion Energi Forum I checked the owner.ford.com site and saw this FSA for my car. There was a phone call from Michigan earlier today but it went away after only one ring, not sure if related.

Note that 15N04 is the same code they used for the Lincolns.

Does anyone know about the specific problem this corrects?  I have this notification in my Ford Owner app on my phone.  I'm wondering how urgently it needs to be performed.

Thanks,

Scott C.

It replaces a unit that used the now long obsolete AT&T 2G cell service that will be shutdown in a couple months with a less obsolete AT&T 3G cell service.

Submitted a service request with the nearest Ford dealer, about 1.5 hours away, will see what they say. I got the 2nd TCU earlier this year when I had the RCM recall done because the first was defective and drained the 12V battery sometimes. That was at the next closest dealer, about 2.5 hours away. The selling dealer, about 3 hours away, showed no interest in doing the RCM recall.

I'm going to wait and see how you guys make out with the new modem, and then if all sounds good do mine later.  I have no issues right now with 2G in my area, but some areas I travel to are definitely feeling the effects of failing 2G coverage.

So I'm happy to report that "mr. White" is in getting an oil change and I asked about the modem replacement and they looked and said it's available so they are ordering it. 👍

My dealer in Georgia said that the part is not available.

Is it possible that it is only available in some areas or is it probable that my dealer did not look the part up correctly?

Does anyone have the Ford part number for the new modem?

Thanks

I've only heard of one person (in Detroit) who has actually had it replaced. My dealer also says it's not available yet. Could be true, or could be normal Ford web site competency. Hopefully if anyone hears back form their dealer that it is now available they will let us know so we can remind our local dealers.

I'm scheduled to get mine replaced this Friday; we'll see if the dealer can get the part.  I'll post if and when.

Mine has been replaced and it's way faster. If I stand by the car and hit the remote start or lock etc. it's about 3-4 seconds and the car does whatever. Big improvement👍

I'm not even going to schedule the appointment until the dealer says he has the part in his hand.

I called Ford customer service main number and they determined that the modem part is indeed available for failed units at this time and for all units at a later date. I told them that the service no longer works when my car is parked at home in the garage but does function in some other locations. When I told them that I frequently access the system online when the car is parked at home in the garage, they said to let the dealer know this and they would order the part. BTW, they have to use a different form to order as an emergency replacement.

Well, that sounded good until I called the dealer and they said I would have to take the car to them for a day to let their service department check it out to determine if the modem was functional or not before they could order it "according to protocol". I told them that would not be a valid confirmation of my problem unless they came to my house to do the testing in my garage. Of course they said that was not according to "protocol".

Since I'm in the middle of an ongoing fight with AT&T on a completely unrelated issue to get them to come finishing burying a cable from the street to my house which they installed over a year ago, it was concluded that since my patience meter is already below zero, getting into a fight right now with my dealer could perhaps land me in jail. So................guess it will be prudent to just wait until the parts are readily available, which hopefully will be before the 2g service is totally discontinued.

Unfortunately my previous Service Advisor has left the dealership, however GOOD FOR HIM because he's probably better off!

Just for kicks I sent a message to another dealer and pointed out that since we don't have AT&T 2G data where I live the modem has never actually worked, and that might qualified as "failed".

Not really expecting a response....

I got a letter from Ford on the 15N04 program today.  We have either 5 years from warranty start date or July 1, 2017, whichever is later, to get it replaced for free.

The 2017 Energi was also featured in an article in My Ford mag Fall 2016 that also came today.  Guess it lives on!
