When locking my new energi, regardless of how this is done, the car alarm sounds between 30 and 60 seconds later. This happens nearly all the time, but not always. I have tried using the interior lock, the black pad, and the remote with the same results. If I then unlock and relock using the fob, the problem does not recur. It is only when locking initially after a trip.

Is this fixable by me, or do I need to take it to the dealer?

The alarm activates after a short period of time. It used to be 45 seconds. It sounds like you have a bad sensor somewhere. I'd take ti to the dealer.

I have the same issue. Told the dealer about it and they couldn't repeat the problem. For me it seems to happen after a ride--I lock the car and walk away briskly and the alarm goes off just when I'm going into a store/the house, etc. I'm wondering if it's trying to update the security code between the fob and the alarm system.

I am new to this forum. I have had this problem off and on, and today was the worst. My car alarm went off on three different occasions within a 2-hour period of doing errands. Same as LEM, about 45 to 60 seconds after locking the car with the fob. I will take it to my dealer and hope that they have a solution.

After taking it back to the dealer for the second time (first time they said it didn't go off for them), they brought in their specialist/technician. From what I understand, one of the computers keeps a log of the last five alarm notifications. All of my notifications were regarding an unauthorized attempt at trying to start the car. I rode around with the technician but we couldn't get the alarm to trigger after driving/parking/walking away (of course). Working with "Ford" the technician was instructed to have me unregister the phone app (I have an android v5 operating system running on a samsung note 3) and we also removed the app from the phone--something to do with the communication between my phone and one of the systems in the car. Because I drove another vehicle there so I could bring the phone, I had to leave and come back later to drive the car home. When I got there, the technician said he received addtional instructions to install an update on one of the computer systems/modules. He said he installed the update and re-installed/flashed all the ohter modules. My "homework" assignment is to see if the problem returns/continues and then we'll figure out what to do next. I've had one alarm since (5 days) and it might have been me accidentally hitting the remote in my pocket. I can't be totally sure because I no longer get the text message notifications when the alarm goes off (no app). I'll update my post in a week or so once I finish my homework and take it back to them to check the codes and re-install the app on my phone.

Looking at the other posts, this seems to be specific to the 2016s. I wonder if we're all using android phones...

Hello,

I'm having the same problem with my new CMax. I've had it a little over a month. I have an android phone also. Interesting that it could be something to do with the phone. I've tried all of the methods I've seen in this thread and nothing seems to prevent the alarm from going off. I've done the 'shut it off and then re-arm' process which does seem to work.

I would be interested in seeing what updates the tech applied if you happen to know what they were. I'd like to be able to go the dealer armed with something for them to start with. I know it will work just fine if I take it in for service, and then not be fine as soon as I leave the dealer.

Thanks

I'm 3 weeks into owning my C-Max Energi , I use the Ford App on an Android and my alarm goes off 30 to 40 seconds after I lock it up.  Doesn't always happen & trying to determine the conditions where it's seems to be most susceptible.   If I double click the Lock button on my remote it seems to happen more often as compared to a single click or using the finger swipe on the door.   Basically, it's random, it makes zero sense and it really sucks!!  If anyone has any success in determining the root cause, I'd love to know.

BTW - are there any Ford experts moderating this forum that might have some knowledge on the subject or could find out??

I'm experiencing the same issue. However, I'm on an iPhone. The problem is only with my 2016 Energi and not with my 2015 C-Max Hybrid (yup, I have one of each). Like the original poster, if I unlock and then re-lock the system after an alarm trigger, the alarm doesn't re-sound. The other observation: the alarm does not sound when the car is plugged in for a charge. This is very frustrating. I'm wondering if the issue isn't with Sync 3 given that it is the only technical (electrical) change from the 2015 model.

I'm a couple weeks into owning a 2016 Energi and have had this problem a number of times. (I have an iPhone paired with the vehicle. My wife, who drives the car more often but doesn't have a phone paired with it, has never experienced this.) However, so far the trick found in a thread on the Hybrid forum has not failed me: turn the car off using the start/stop button with your foot OFF the brake.

If the alarm ever goes off under those conditions, I'll post here again and probably start trying to get the dealer to address it (good luck, with intermittent issues and embedded software!) but for now it's a workaround I can live with.

I've been having the exact same problem. Alarm semi-regularly goes off soon after I leave car. It's very embarrassing and annoying to neighbors. I have taken to not locking my car! I have a 2016 C-Max Energi. (Strangely seems to occur less now that weather is cold, but maybe this a red herring.)

Has anyone gotten an official diagnosis / fix from Ford? It seems like this is a design flaw of some kind.

After spending several weeks (almost a month) with my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 3) completely free of Ford applications (unregistering the apps) and after the dealer updated all the software, my random alarm issue went away. My phone was still connected for blue tooth purposes, but no Ford apps. The dealer said to go ahead and reinstall the app on the phone (MyFord Mobile) and to register the app with my account. I did this and everything worked OK for about a week.

Then the alarm started it's dastardly tricks again--not as frequent, but still... I also noticed another wierd thing--I was getting emails in the Sync 3 system as well as text messages. Also strange. Several days before I started getting the emaiils and the alarm issue coming back, I installed the xfinity email app on my phone--this app allows me to get home phone calls (also from my xfinity triple play services) on my phone.

So I decided to pull the xfinity app off the phone. After a day or so, Sync 3 quit displaying email (just text) messages and my alarm hasn't gone off. This has been the case for over a week now.

Anyone out there using the xfinity email app?

I have the SAME PROBLEM, and using an iPhone. I thought it was just an overly sensitive fob, but today I was carrying my key with the fob dangling and not being touched, and the alarm went off about 30 seconds later. It's happened about ten times, seemingly randomly. I'll try working with deleting the app and seeing if it goes away. I'd be happy to get a definitive answer on what is causing it.

I have had my CMAX about 6 months now. The car, after locked, and I walk away, alarm goes off irregularly. I thought it was me, that I was mishandling the Fob or hitting the button unintentionally. I thought that  until I posted it on FB and found out indeed, it was not me, but a flaw in the 2016 model and was referred to this web page.

I took it in to the service department today and try as they might they could not make the alarm go off and nothing showed on the computer. More discouraging is that the service tech seemed not even to be aware of the issue. Help! How do I convince the service department that my issue is real and needs to be addressed. I am about ready to trade the car and get something else.  And why has Ford not issued a recall for a known problem?

Pat Northey - I really suggest trying the solution in my post #10 above (http://fordcmaxenerg...ing/#entry42417) which has worked flawlessly for me. Or, if you want to demonstrate the problem to the dealer, make sure to take your phone along, paired to the car, and make sure your foot is ON the brake when pressing the on-off button.

ahc19081, thanks for following up about your successful work-around.  If it has worked for you for nearly 4 months I'm going to give it a try.  I've tried everything else, including locking it consistently with fob, inside door or outside thumb lock.  All eventually produced the annoying alarm.  Yesterday it happened to me three times!  Like many, I took it to my Ford dealer who had not heard of it and could not reproduce it.  I appreciate your sharing this temporary fix but I certainly hope Ford engineers will find a permanent fix to a stressful and embarrassing problem!

Reminds me of when I was a kid and would sit for hours on the driveway pretending to drive my sister's new Plymouth Duster.  I found, after monkeying around with all the different switches and controls that if I switched the radio on, turned on the emergency flashers and had my foot on the brake pedal, the radio would play a blurb every time the flashers lit up!

Same issue here!  I have two co-workers who also have the 2016 C-Max Energi and sure enough...the guy with the Ford app installed gets the false-alarm.  The other guy doesn't have the app installed and no problems.  I have to take mine in for some other issues soon so hopefully I can reproduce it for the service techs.

I have a new 2016 CMax Energi with the same alarm problem, read all of your information on how to stop alarm issues  Sorry nothing worked, I took car back to dealer explained to service rep whats going on and stated there is complaints in Ford Cmax Forum about this Problem. They kept car over night and told me the 12V Gas engine battery was bad! it will cause the alarm to trigger if the 12v battery drop to low. They put a new battery in its been 3 weeks since they put battery in and cross my fingers no more issues. I bought a 12v battery gauge from amazon just to verify charging condition all is good. So it looks like my case it was a battery, note everything worked fine with car just alarm went off when I locked the car!   Hope this helps

We have two new 2016 CMax Energi cars (model 302A) and both have the same alarm problem. Read all of your information on how to stop alarm issues  Sorry nothing worked, I took one of the cars back to dealer and explained to service rep whats going on with this problem. We also had an issue with my iphone 6 that if I was on the phone and got in the car then my iphone and the sync3 would both quit working. They kept the car for the afternoon but said they could not replicate the alarm problem. They updated the sync3 software and that appears to have solved the iphone issue. My wife does not have a smartphone and has the same alarm problem with her car.  We have tried multiple ways of locking the vehicle but the alarm still goes off about every 4th time after 30 seconds.   Glad to hear if someone has a solution.

2016 / 302A....The alarm sounding after completing a trip has been a pretty infuriating experience.  I should have checked this thread sooner.  I have an iPhone 6s, latest iOS version with the MFM app on the phone.  I am going to delete the app and see if this very frustrating alarm experience goes away.  I like the car a lot from a driving perspective, but these telematics / communications issues that the car suffers from are beyond disappointing.  I honestly can't recommend the car to a friend or family member (one was thinking about it) when 1/2 of the tech in the car behaves inconsistently and my dealer experience to date is that it sat for three days with a comment on my slip of "sent details to Ford Engineering."
