I wasn't quite sure where to post this and thought this section was the most appropriate place. Apologies if I'm incorrect.

The alarm on my father's CMAX all of a sudden started going off tonight. He went out to his car to find it was unlocked and all the windows were down.

5 minutes later the alarm went off and once again the windows were down and the car was unlocked.

10 minutes later the alarm went off again. This time the car was just unlocked.

It's been 30 minutes now and there have been no more incidents.

Is this a technical fault and the car is unlocking itself or is this the likely work of someone messing around or what?

The most common cause is having the remote in your pocket with other stuff and sitting down, causing buttons to be pushed.  There are other possibilities as well, but this is the most common cause.

@cwstnsko the remote was on a hook, hanging up on all of these occasions.

Another post which includes the alarm going off found here.  Post #7 says the dealer thinks it is a bad ignition switch.
