Going to owner.ford.com I see there is a Sync update for my 2013.

Looks like same procedure as the 3.6.2 update - copy files to USB flash drive, put in car, put into ready-to-run mode, wait 30 minutes, remove drive, put back in computer, upload to Ford to let them know you did the update.

Still downloading. It's 572MB and I only have 512kbps DSL. Another 1.5 hours to download and 0.5 hours to install.

A guy with a 2013 Fusion Hybrid installed it. The usual stuff with it resetting some settings and needing to re-install wallpapers, but no sign of flames.....

OK, I'll try tonight when there may be less traffic.

I'm not afraid. I loaded a drive and will install tomorrow after work. Seems like a perfect chance to take the car on the freeway as it loads and heat up the oil to avoid a forced oil maintenance mode situation. I've never had any issues with these self installed updates, I'm expecting this one will be no different. Other than easier phone pairing, if you have v3.7 installed, it seems this is primarily an update for iPhone users.

Included in this update

EA5T-14D544-AD Gen2 - V3.8

ABOUT THE LATEST UPDATE

The new software update for SYNC® with MyFord Touch® systems includes all the improvements from previous updates, plus additional benefits such as:

Siri® Eyes Free*:

Secure, simple phone pairing:

Now iPhone users can use Siri® Eyes Free with SYNC® with MyFord Touch®. With simple voice commands, SYNC® with MyFord Touch® enables you to operate the iPhone and SYNC® together. Siri® Eyes Free can be activated by pressing and holding the voice button for at least 3 seconds.

Automatic reconnection:

Phone pairing is now easier.

Installation went OK. Had to re-pair my phones and re-install wallpapers. Can't test any of the fancy stuff like Siri since my old iPhone 4 doesn't support it and even when it was used as a phone (before T-Mobile went out of business) I've never had a data plan. Pairing with my cheap LG Tracfone seemed to go smoother than the last version.

Thanks, I had not noticed that an update was available. The version on my car was 3.6.2. I even had the car in for service yesterday and they reprogrammed modules but I guess the dealer service department either did not notice or does not do the Sync updates. I downloaded version 3.8 and completed the update tonight. It did take around a half hour and completed successfully. Got my phone paired and all seems functional. I will have to check out any changes when I get a chance.

I did the update last night without any issues.  Only thing I had to do was reset the time on the clock (no DST) and I was good to go.  Have to love Windows upgrades (I'm a Linux guy).  Painfully slow.

This update seems to primarily benefit iPhone users.  I've not had pairing or reconnecting problems with my Android phones, so I'm going to leave my currently working system alone for now.

Had I known Ford was still working on a new update, I would have submitted this one:  while tuned to an FM HD station, the radio will be off upon powering up the car the next time.   It behaves fine if tuned to any other source.   It will be interesting to see what 3.8 does in this scenario.

Great observation, I don't think anyone would have picked up on that.

If it's all about the iphone I don't see a big reason to update.  Anything else in it?  Does "such as" mean there's more?:  "plus additional benefits such as:"

I'm downloading it now, but my car just came back from service today and they said they updated MFT screen as well as fixed other problems.  Would they have updated sync to the latest version?  How do I find out what I have from the car's screen?  I haven't taken the time to look through the menus, if you guys know off the top of your head let me know and thanks.

I believe if they update it, they should have uploaded the .xml file as one would do on your own.  That is how the car came back after they fixed the My Ford Mobile issue.  I just updated my wife's.  Unfortunately, it did not fix the radio not turning off issue she is having, among others...

Will try disconnecting the negative battery cable next...

(Probably requires a dealer visit.  My son is ill, so many things going on.  Last time it took so long to fix the My Ford Mobile issue as well.  Not looking forward to this one...)

Regarding the update, it did take a while.  I was using Google Chrome, and attempted to upload the file, and it would not work.  I'm happy to report that the built in Windows 10 Microsoft Edge uploaded it just fine.  (Grumble grumble!!!)  Last time the file was not in the root directory of the USB as the website said it should, as well as not being the exact name it was supposed to be, and even did not update on the website after uploading (3.6.2)....

I upgraded last night.  Yes, Siri Eyes Free works. But still, no contact photo is shown in the address book, still cannot send a text message from the SYNC buttons, still cannot navigate to a contact in the address book.

I tried to "launch Pandora" with my voice, but Siri says she cannot do that while I am in the car.

I will try looking for more features this weekend.

I updated my last night in my garage while playing chess in the car with the Ipad.  Just wanted to be around while its updating in case some error message popped up.  The radio came on and went off several times, but finally the update completed successfully.

I have not looked to see what it did.  I did have to re-pair my iphone to the car.

What is Siri eyes free?  I read about it in the update but have not tried it yet.  Do you mean I can just access Siri by holding the car's button down on the steering?

Yes,  pull in the Voice button for three seconds, and you've got Siri's full attention.

I'm having a little trouble. The update is not starting after the car is on and the usb is plugged in. I waited in P for ten minutes and nothing happened. I check the drive and the update is loaded on it. Those who have updated, how long did it take for the update to start?
