Has anyone done what I'm doing and waited for this message to appear before changing the oil the first time?  If so, at how many months and miles did it appear?

I'm at 22 months since the car was built and at about 11,000 total miles, 4,800 ICE miles, so I assume it will show up before 24 months but maybe not.  If not, I will change at 24 months.  Have never needed to add oil.

Mine trggered at 20200 miles. The car was exactly 1 year old that day and I had just had the oil changed at the purchasing dealer that same day 50 miles ago. They forgot to reset the oil life meter.

If you go that long I would definitely change it in the next couple of months.

I too am waiting for the message. It has been 18 months and 18K miles so far. I expect to see the message at 20,200 miles. That will be within the next couple of months. I still have less that 2K on the ICE as I drive mostly EV. I have never added oil and the oil is still quite clear on the dip stick. I will take it back to the dealer to get my free first oil change.  I may switch to 0W20 as that is now approved for the 2013 C-Max.

If I do switch to 0W20 oil I want to also replace the oil filler cap to one that reflects 0W20 since the current is stamped with 5W20. This will reduce confusion in the future since oil changes are so infrequent.

My 2013 purchased July 1,2013 has over 24k total miles and about 8k engine miles on it.  I did my first free at 5k when dealer pressured me (i know i know), probably had 1500 engine miles on the car then.  Haven't seen the oil life monitor warning on yet, but expect it any day now.

My Dads just went on, 20300 or something. I also want to know about proper battery maintenace. My Dad just passed and I know nothing about this car yet, Just drove it for 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, lost mine a couple of years ago.  He was always trying the latest gadgets - perhaps yours was the same.  In any case, read the manual, and/or browse this forum.  This is perhaps one of the greatest automotive technology advances since the 2004 Prius (well Tesla is probably more amazing, but out of my reach).  Enjoy learning about it.  Sounds like your CMAX needs an oil change.  The battery takes care of itself pretty well.  Are you charging it once or twice a day?

Mine just went on at 20,200 miles and 18 months even though I changed the oil at 11,500.  I thought I reset the oil life monitor but maybe it didn't take.  Anyway I'm not real comfortable with 20,000 miles or 2 years, I would rather err on the safe side.

Mine went off at 20,200 miles also and while I had the dealer change the oil at 20k for free (first oil change), apparently they didn't reset it as I was driving away back to Boston it went off.  I reset it that night and have not seen it yet.

I'm at 33k now, I won't change the oil until 40k miles.  Will be sometime this year I got alot of trips coming on this summer.

I don't know I feel that the engine does a lot of cold starts and with the hot cold cycle I feel I would change mine  once a year.  I did change mine already but it was free, and my CMAX is a May 2013 build that I purchased in July 2014.

The gasoline engine will require service when the CHANGE OIL light comes on.

Follow these steps to reset this light:
1. Press the start/stop button once (do not start the engine).
2. Press both the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time.
3. Keep both pedals fully pressed.
4. After three seconds, the Service: Oil reset in prog. message will be displayed.
5. After 25 seconds, the Service: Oil reset complete message will be displayed.
6. Release both the accelerator and brake pedals.
7. The Service: Oil reset complete message will no longer be displayed.
8. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset.

If I remember correctly, it's pretty simple:

1) Turn on the car in accessory mode (without pressing the brake pedal)

2) Press and hold both the brake and the accelerator pedals. A message "Resetting oil life monitor" will appear. Keep pressing both pedals until the message says "... complete".

3) Release the pedals and turn off the car.

Hello but isn't Epic's message surrounded by how to reset the oil life monitor?  I mean the instructions were right there in the last post, but I guess he must have missed it,  hopefully he'll see Hackster's reply now.

I was browsing on my phone and the earlier messages in the thread did not show up (looked like it was a new thread). Otherwise, I would have simply referred epic to post #14, which is right above his/hers

My oil level is pretty low on the dipstick. I have put about 10k mostly hybrid miles on the car since buying it from a GMC dealer 9 months ago. He serviced it at @ 22k (with what oil, I don't know) and put a sticker in the window for it to me serviced again at 27k (which I ignored). The oil still looks clean, so should I just go to Walmart and by a quart of motorcraft 5w30 to top up, or take advantage of a Ford coupon to get a quick lane oil change and (long overdue) tire rotation for $39 or $49 (I can't remember which it is)?

I have not ever heard of C-Max owners having  to add oil between changes before. Since you drive mostly hybrid it will be interesting to see if the oil change notification message occurs at less that 20k miles. Also the 2013 model uses 5w20 and newer models now use 0w20.
