I know it might just be an OCD thing, but every time I open the charge port door I can't help but think that eventually the paint on the "press here" spot may wear off/fade. Even though I try to spin my thumb with the rotation of the door, it still pops into my little pea brain.

But I guess if that's the only thing I'm worrying about with the car, that's not too bad.

You could always cut out   a piece of clear 3M film and affix it to that spot.

Do you believe the skin on your thumb is harder than the clearcoat on the car?  More likley to wear off your fingerprint first!! The only possibility I see for paint damage is if your car is so dirty there is enough grit on the paint and your are grinding that into the paint.  Same reason not to use a dirty sponge to wash your car.  But between the clearcoat and some auto wax you should be fine!!

To me, it's not much different from opening and closing the driver's door every time I get into and out of the car. And I've never worn through paint doing that. :)

I've had my car for almost two years, and open and close the charge door at least 3 times a day.  I can't see any wear on it.

I just push on the entire door with multiple fingers and/or body parts to open it.

That cheap door will break long before you wear through the clear coat

If you bang it up and you're careless with it then yes.

Or if you have kids to break it for you then yes also!

We just noticed on our brand new Energi that the paint is already wearing off the outside edge of the charge port door. :(
