Can the charger be programmed to charge to 80% or anything less than 100%?

Is there anyway to program the timer to charge the battery to less than 100%? Example Leaf has a 80% charge option.

I have a long downgrade from my home and want to get as much re-gen as possible?

Using external timer will not be quite accurate as the battery charge level at the start of charge could vary.

You could program the car to send you a text message when it reaches 80%.  Then you just have to go out and unplug it at that time.  The percentage can be set in increments, so you can find the best charge percentage for the text message notification for you.

Thanks Raja.. That's probably not going to be quite practical in the middle of the night :)

Depends on how much time you have, maybe you can charge it when you get home and unplug it before you go to bed?  Just a thought unless you're trying to charge it for some cheaper electric rate after midnight.  I don't do that here, we have the same rates all around.

Schedule it to start such that it'll be at 80% when you want to leave.

How do you schedule in such a manner to time the start time?

Even setting the value charge intervals to a smaller interval does not over-ride the systems need to charge to 100%.

E.g. I set the value charge from 12am to 4am. But charging is set to start at 11pm as it requires it to get to 100% in more than 4 hrs. I'm not able to get the charging to start at 12am and end at 4am.

set it to be ready an hour after you really intend to leave.  Lie to it :happy feet: - and tell MFM your power company drops the rate at 2 AM - noon.

Has anyone used a timer to stop the charging before it reaches 100%.  If yes, then what timer do you use?  I tried it with one timer from Amazon but it failed after the second day.

The value charging does not allow the charging to stop before reaching 100%, even if set for a short time period.  In that case it just starts charging as soon as plugged in upto a level such that it can be finished before your value charge time completes.  If it is programmed to value charge at a time past my departure time then the electricity rates are high at that time.  So, it would be preferable to unplug it about an hour before the value charge window closes.  However, that time in inconvenient as normally I would be asleep at that time.

How about if you set it to value charge starting at 4am?  Then you can wake up and unplug it before it reaches 100%?  Will that work?

Yeah, you'd either need the heaviest duty timer you can find or get a different EVSE with a built in timer.  I've not played with mine, but pretty sure the openevse model I had built does support it.  Though it would just be a guess at the time allowed to get around 80%.

I have my value charge set from 3:00 am to 7:00 am. It starts charging as soon as I plug it in at night and stops about 50% after a few hours. Then it resumes charging at 4:00 am and finishes at 100% about 6:25 am. I normally wake up at 7:30 am, so that is too late to unplug it. The electricity’s rate goes to the highest cost from 7:00 am to 9:00 am.

What the heck...? Mine ever starts charging until 4am. Even if totally empty it doesn’t charge. Are you making a big enough window for it? I mean set it to charge from 3am to 12 noon. Then it should start at 3am and at 7:30 should be around 80%.

Try that.

I deliberately set the charge window short because I want it to have some charge in the evening but not sit at full charge all night.  It charges itself enough at the beginning to be able to be finish later at 100% before the window closes.

What works for me is:

1) Outdoor Wifi Smart Plug

2) IFTTT
Power off unit when I receive the 80% Alert email.

Yes, for now I still have to set the 80% back using MFM... but trying to code WorkFlow on my iPhone to automate MFM login & Set %
