Just checking in to say I'd never had this problem after 35 months of leasing the 2013 C-Max Energi, but it just occurred.  Pulled Fuse 67 and reinserted.  Almost instantly got a text message confirming the last command I'd sent with the app (a week ago)!  Funny it stays in some queue that long.

Fuse 67 is in the fusebox beneath the passenger side glove box (pull the two caps off the yellow studs, then pull the carpeted cover down and away.  Fuse 67 is the red 7.5 amp fuse that is the 3rd fuse down in the second column from the left.  It's got a blank holder beneath, so it's easy to spot.  You'll need a fuse puller or a pair of strong tweezers to get it out, but it goes back in very easily.

Good luck.

Hi - I had the modem replaced as part of the recall; it immediately stopped updating my Energi status, and also disabled the programmable charging times (this hurt, as I get really low electric rates when I charge between midnight and 6am; it now either charges when plugged in or doesn't charge when not plugged in....frustrating!).  To say I'm underwhelmed with Sync is putting it mildly - the MyFord Mobile app is now just a useful app on my iPhone. Any idea why Ford would allow a modem update to disable their mobile app?

Tks -

Mark

It appears to me that there are certain aspects of the myfordmobile functionality that sync the website to the modem independently.  If your modem was replaced, it may not yet be fully synced to the information in your myfordmobile configuration.  If your value charge profiles are not working in the car, I would perhaps go so far as to delete tham from the website and rebuild them.  This should force that element of the data to sync between the website and the modem.

When I had my modem replaced, I made a point of deleting all the profiles from the website while the car was offline and rebuilding them after the car came back online.  I won't say that it worked entirely seamlessly, but after a little fiddling with the profiles mine seemed to be working fairly well in short order.

This is great info, I talked to sync, they first said that sync needed update by Ford service, then Ford service said it was updated to latest version, called sync again they then said it was unable to troubleshoot any further. Apparently they know nothing of fuse 67, which solved the problem. Now I wonder if another issue of the emission sensors 'not ready' is related. Will get back to forum if my inspection goes through. Thank you forum.

The modem in my 2013 never works long. Why? It looks, based on the behavior, like it's correlated with losing cell service for an extended period. The last time it started working (after the 12V battery died, effectively performing a reset) it only lasted 3 days. The MyFordMobile website still shows it as being in a deep valley in a national park (definitely a cell signal desert). The service is unreliable at our house too so I've just given up on it. It's a shame that I went to the trouble to get the modem updated to 3G. I'd hoped that I could at least use it when I was traveling but... No.

What ever happened to Ford's plans to start charging for this service? Not that it would be something I could use, but I'm just curious.

Still no updates on the MFM subscription side. Per the MFM site mine supposedly says my subscription is active through July 15th 2018 but it is still going and haven't heard anything yet. At this stage my guess is they may just let it run for free (up until AT&T decides to shut down their 3G service and then I have no doubts Ford's going to decide not to offer a 4G/LTE upgrade for us). The MFM platform was used by so few vehicles (essentially just the Focus Electric, C-Max Energi, and Fusion Energi) and has essentially been rolled into the new Sync Connect system which is being rolled out to all other vehicles in Ford's lineup. They could probably just lump us into the same bulk subscription they have with AT&T to essentially have Sync Connect subscribers 'subsidize' our service for the seemingly very few who use it. But that's just a guess from me. Personally if they did finally start making us pay I'd gladly do it as the service has been invaluable to me.

As far as coverage issues, the TCU uses AT&T so a good check of their 3G coverage is probably a good idea to reference.

Unfortunately AT&T's coverage map is aspirational in this area. The MVNO that I use is mostly run on top of AT&T and while the maps claim otherwise I rarely have data coverage in rural areas. I'm clearly not the only one in this situation. Does Sync Connect use different modem hardware/firmware? It's odd that the modem we're using for MFM shipped with a bug this severe but given what you say about the size of the user base perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. Thanks for the perspective there.

Also, I'll note that personally MFM just fits in with the rest of this Ford stuff where it *mostly/kinda* works.  But then there are times like once or twice a week(like this morning) where I set a go time for 20 minutes later, it says it's waiting to sync.  Comes back a minute later saying it synced with the car, no problem.  And then I get out to the car half an hour later and it's dead cold and hasn't done a thing.

(As opposed to the times when it just never finishes syncing)

Can't comment on this possible bug as mine has been rock solid but if there is a chance this is a cause, it'd be interesting if others who have had issues with it could chime in with info on their areas and find what coverage is like.

Wouldn't surprise me though if it does end up being the case. Just like personal smartphones if it ends up losing signal altogether and is sitting there trying to search for one, it is going to be using a LOT more power than normal and in a more consistent state. They probably put in a contingency for it to fail into an idle state if no signal could be found after x period of time. But why it wouldn't simply be able to pick back up and try again after a power cycle I have no idea.

Yep, it works 95% of the time for me but it goes through periods of lots of dropped trips. The nearest gap in cell coverage is probably 50 miles or more away. The total mileage-based figures it shows are complete nonsense.

Yeah. The stuff regarding the leaderboards and 'CO2 saved' and that side of MFM has always been off in spots and seems to be the same for most other people. Like the 'achievement' for x EV miles driven has always seemed like it is over-counting by almost 2x. But most of that stuff means nothing to me and I largely ignore. Stuff like the remote start/lock/unlock, vehicle status (alarm trigger, if car is locked/unlocked, doors open, windows down), etc.. are where it counts and has been pretty flawless IME. I have had trips drop on occasion though now that you mention it. But that's maybe been about 3-5 trips in the 1.5 years I've owned this car. And now that I think about it those scenarios tend to have either been potentially areas where cell signal could have been marginal or more often if the stop was REALLY short, ie <5 minutes.
