Well, really more like adoption day, but I drove mine off the lot November 6, 2012.  Hoping the next few years go as well as the first! :smile2:

Congrats. How many miles so far?

Just passed 17000 miles.  About 6000 in two long road trips, about 1000 on weekend trips, and 10000 on EV commuting.

C-Max turned two today. 33,000 miles and still rolling quietly along.

Cool!  How is the battery holding up as far as range?  Can you still pull 5.5-5.7 kwh out of it from a full charge?

No, more like 5.2 or so. But curiously enough, it still has the same electric range. My typical Saturday morning return from running is right on the edge of my EV range, just as it's always been.

What is EV range for you with 5.2kwh drawn? 27-28 miles?

Oh, no. At highway speed, going uphill, 14-15 miles. Same as when it was new.

Driving on surface streets, 35-45 mph, it will go mid 20s, but I rarely do that.

Third birthday just went by and definitely showing signs of age this year.  Battery capacity rapidly deteriorated this summer.  Now I get 4.1-4.2 kWh before going to hybrid mode, compared to 5.2-5.3 at the car's 2nd birthday and 5.4-5.6 when new.  The last few times I made the Saturday morning drive I mentioned last year, I ran out of charge a few miles short of the destination.

The battery also seems to get hotter, faster, for the same drives as when it was new, but I didn't write down numbers then so I can't really quantify that.

Other than that big issue, the car is awesome.  44,000 miles and still smooth and quiet and comfortable.  The trouble is, it's got me hooked on electric driving.  Chargers at work keep me from ever burning gas most every weekday, but they are getting more crowded and if it gets to where I can't regularly get a spot, I may have to give up on this car and crumple my tall self into a Chevy Volt!

C-Max is 4 years old today.  55,000 miles.  Battery capacity is down to 3.7 kWh.  Other than the frustrating loss of EV range, the car still runs very well on EV or ICE.  Looking back:

Age (yrs)     Odometer    Miles Driven       Capacity (kWh)

0                 0                   N/A                     5.5

1                 17000           17000                 5.4??     (didn't record)

2                 33000           16000                 5.2

3                 44000           11000                 4.2

4                 55000           11000                 3.7

It went along just fine for two years, then really crashed in the third year.  Not as much capacity loss during the fourth year, although I'm using the ICE a bit more on weekends as the battery either runs out of charge or approaches its temperature limit much sooner than it used to.

My pure EV mileage hasn't changed much year to year.  The first two years had much more total mileage because I took the C-Max on more long road trips, while the last couple years I've gone back to either flying or taking the FJ Cruiser when driving into snowy climates.

I still love the way this car fits me and am loath to get another one, but really like EV driving.  I test drove a 2017 Chevy Volt and it was too small.  Also an Audi A3 e-tron, but its EV range was weak to start with.  A few more EVs/PHEVs are coming out next Spring, so I'll check out Bolt, Pacifica, Prius Prime...

One thing is true, as the battery gets damaged or puffed if you could see it they do start to heat up quicker. Also they are unable to provide the current they used to, during high loads the voltage will drop harder than it did before.

I am at 3.3 years now, 57 k miles and this past summer I was still getting 5.5kwh out of the battery. I have driven more highway miles and did not drive 100% EV to work and back every day though I do drive 100% EV when I don't have any long trips.

The heat in Texas probably didn't help you much unfortunately. I try to keep my car out of the heat at much as possible even up here in New England.

Didn’t quite make 5th birthday, as I traded it in for a 2017 C-Max before the Ford incentives ran out. Battery capacity was 3.5 - 3.6 kWh, so the degradation did finally seem to level off.
